Dan Owens

Dan W. Owens - Marrieta, Ga. Born Dec. 3, 1941, in Wisconsin, the son of the late William Owens and Ruth Payne Owens, died suddenly Aug. 14, 2021, at Kennestone Hospital, Kennesaw, Ga., taking his final flight home. Dan was a 1959 graduate of Kaukauna High School. Dan served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corp. after graduating from UW-Madison in Germany during the the Berlin Wall era. Employed by IBM, he lived in Wisconsin, Florida and finally Georgia where he retired. Most important to Dan was his aviation avocation: obtaining his private pilot’s license in college, many flying clubs until he purchased his first of 20+ planes in 1974. One special plane had a parking place in his garage during refurbishing. No summer went by without the obligatory trip to aviation mecca: Oshkosh’s EAA. Over the years he earned his CFII, helicopter, seaplane, sailplane ratings along with his AFPP certificate. Most recently he got a glider pilot instructor rating. Surviving him are his son: Tony (Amy) Owens and daughter: Jodi (Jason) Pace, both of the Atlanta area. A brother: John Owens of Florida and sister: Nancy (Michael) Miller of North Carolina. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
