Kimberly Public Library tells news for April

By Holly Selwitschka
Director
April is right around the corner, and the Kimberly library has no shortage of fun spring programming in store.
This final week of March will witness the hatching of the baby chicks. We started incubating a variety of chicken eggs on Thursday, March 10. After 21 days of growing, the chicks should hatch any time between Wednesday and Friday, March 30-April 1. If you’d like to catch a glimpse of the action, we will try our best to live-stream the hatching process, but we can’t guess exactly when that will be. Stay tuned to Facebook for updates about when the hatching stream will go live on YouTube. If you haven’t already done so, please subscribe to the Kimberly Public Library YouTube Channel, then you can get notifications that way, too. As a backup plan, librarians will try to videotape at least one of the eggs hatching and post the video on the Kimberly Public Library facebook page.
If you’re excited to greet the chicks, consider attending the special baby chick story time on Thursday, April 7, at 10 a.m., or come back at 4:30 p.m. for a presentation about the life cycle of chickens from a local 4-H member. Both occasions will provide an opportunity to get up close and personal with the little peeps.
April is National Library Month. Help the library celebrate April 4-8, during National Library Week. Drop in for coffee every morning and check in on the chicks or just visit with a friend. Learn about the library’s new video streaming service, Kanopy, and get individualized instruction on how to use it. Participate in the book discussion of the Fox Cities Reads Selection, There, There by Tommy Orange, on Thursday, April 7, at 10 a.m. or join the discussion of the tween/teen selection Apple in the Middle by Dawn Quigley on Tuesday, April 12, at 2 p.m. Sharing in the discussion will help you prepare for meeting the authors when they visit in May. You can also attend a demonstration on making a Native American corn-husk doll on Tuesday, April 19. Please call the library to register, as space is limited.
The Friends of the Kimberly Library host their first-ever annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the library on Tuesday, April 12. Everyone is welcome. Come find out what it means to be a friend of the library and fill yourself up on cookies and coffee.
This spring, the library will plant a storybook garden in raised beds on the municipal center grounds. The storybook garden was funded by a Fox Cities Community Foundation Spark grant and constructed by a local Boy Scout troop. The garden has been dedicated to Sally Grady in recognition of her long-term commitment and excellent work ethic as a village employee for many years. On Monday, April 11, please drop in throughout the day to plant a pepper seed or two – one for the garden and one to take home with you.
If you love gardening, be sure to join the Zoom session on Monday, April 25, at 6 p.m. when Master Gardeners present all you need to know about perennials.
With all these fabulous events to host, the library staff will be taking a day to recharge at the first-ever library conference hosted by the Outagamie Waupaca County Library System. The library will be closed on Friday, April 22, so that all of Kimberly library’s staff may attend this inaugural event and learn new ways to make the Kimberly Library your favorite place to be. The library will also be closed on Friday, April 15, a designated spring break for the Village of Kimberly, as the village offices are closed that day as well.
