Wesley Nicholas Newhouse “Bud” - Little Chute - Age 94, passed away on Oct. 16, 2024, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Kaukauna to the late Wesley Bernard and Myra (Endter) Newhouse. Bud married Joan (Van Gompel) on Sept. 14, 1957, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. They had eight children, raising them in Appleton and Freedom. Bud was raised on a dairy farm north of Kaukauna. He left farming to join the Army during the Korean War. Once discharged, he sought employment in Appleton, accepting a position at Zwicker Knitting Mills where he worked his way up to personnel director. In 1971, he went back to run the family farm until 1979. After a short period of working as a foreman at Badger Northland from 1979-1982, he again went back to his love of farming until 1987. From there, he decided to take a chance, and changed his career path as he accepted a salesman position at Lieber Basement Dewatering Systems. With experience gained in basement waterproofing and foundation repair he became instrumental in helping his son Doug start Sure-Dry Basement Systems Inc. in 1994. Bud loved old country music and had a great singing voice. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, old tractors and farm-related activities, watching and listening to the Green Bay Packers (proud attendee of the Ice Bowl), and the Milwaukee Brewers. He took pride in gardening and loved to share his home grown produce. In high school, he was a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club, graduating from Kaukauna High School, Class of 1947. He would occasionally joke about taking his horse to sister school (St. Nick in Freedom) when he was a kid, claiming that he thinks he saw more changes in his lifetime than his grandpa did. While serving in the military, he was part of the 71st AAA Missile Battalion. Radar Site, Rockville, Md. With his love for singing, he sang and entertained for the wounded servicemen. Many times, he bragged about singing on stage with Patsy Cline. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 258. Bud is survived by his children: Terri (Newhouse) Renkens, Jeff (Karen) Newhouse, Doug (Jenny) Newhouse, Sandy (Newhouse) Verbeten, Dan (Margi) Newhouse, Tim (Claudia) Newhouse, Karen (Newhouse) DeGroot (special friend Gary Natrop), and Julie (Newhouse) (Bruce) Dudek.
