Generous gift provides another $6.24 million to Northeast Wisconsin nonprofit organizations

Thirty-two nonprofits throughout northeastern Wisconsin received a much-needed boost when the David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region awarded more than $6.24 million in grants. 
The fund has provided over $21 million in grants since its creation four years ago.

City of Kaukauna approves change to Lawe Street development


Submitted photo — The apartment building previously proposed for the back end of the Lawe Street property closer to Catherine Street will be joined by a similar-looking building off Lawe Street. Dreamville Kaukauna LLC plans to build 180 luxury class A market rate apartments within the two buildings.

Work begins this week on the Kimberly-Little Chute Community Bridge to place an epoxy overlay on the bridge. Work will be completed under traffic utilizing single lane closures. The work that increases bridge deck safety and service life is slated to take 1-2 weeks.

Mark Duerwaechter’s last Kau-kauna school board meeting was full of compliments on June 13. 
Jerry Brien of the Kaukauna Elks Club presented the outgoing superintendent with the group’s Citizen of the Year award for all the work he did for 10 years in the district.

Grignon Mansion renovations underway

Time, and woodpeckers, has taken a toll on the “Mansion in the Woods” that is now without a woods following the removal of all the elm trees around the house this past winter.

Charles A. Grignon built a Greek revival style mansion as a wedding gift for his Pennsylvanian bride, Mary Elizabeth Meade in 1837. This stately home was known as “The Mansion in the Woods” to countless travelers.
