Stars pick up first conference win with 5-1 victory against Waupun

The Fox Cities Stars boys earned their first Badgerland Conference win of the season, and their second overall, in a 5-1 home victory over Waupun Tuesday night.

The Stars then nearly earned wins three and four this past weekend, losing 3-2 to Waupaca on Saturday and 4-3 to Whitefish Bay on Sunday.

Little Chute boys fall victim to Wrightstown's hot shooting night

Often, analyzing a basketball game can be complicated; sometimes, however, it’s uncommonly simple.

The Wrightstown boys’ basketball team shot 61 percent from the floor last Tuesday night. The Little Chute boys shot 33 percent. The Tigers were 10 of 18 from deep (55 percent) and the Mustangs were 5 of 19 (26 percent).

Kaukauna boys win three last week, have now won 9 of last 11

It took a while to get going but when the Kaukauna Ghosts got going, they really got going Saturday night at Appleton West High School, beating the Terrors 99-62. It was Kaukauna’s third time over 90 points in five days.

The Kaukauna girls won all three of their games last week, all by double digits and all on the road as the Ghosts beat Fond du Lac 78-47, Hortonville 60-50 and West De Pere 87-72 in a non-conference battle.

Sports Musings for week of Jan. 17

  • There are a lot of reasons the Packers lost on Sunday. The officials are not one of them. Although I would admit, on that pass interference call on Kevin King on Tampa Bay’s last drive, the ball was uncatchable which would have mitigated any penalty.

Little Chute wrestling doubles up Waupaca in NEC win

The Little Chute wrestling team earned a 42-21 win over Waupaca Thursday night behind wins from returning state qualifiers Carter Kruckeberg and Matthew Janssen.

Kruckeberg won the first wrestled match of the dual, pinning the Comets’ Ben Habighorst in 2 minutes, 32 seconds at 132 pounds.

Kimberly girls finish another unbeaten week, remain atop FVA

Prior to last Saturday’s rematch with Appleton West being cancelled, the Kimberly girls ran past the Terrors on Tuesday and routed Oshkosh North on Friday, finishing the week 2-0 to move to 14-1 overall in the Fox Valley Association.
