Kimberly’s Wurtz retiring after 13 seasons, four FVA titles


File photo/Kimberly Boys Basketball Head Coach Lucky Wurtz announced his retirement last week after 13 seasons as the Papermakers’ coach, which included four Fox Valley Association titles and an appearance in the Division 1 state title game this past year.
Last week, via a statement on the Kimberly Boys Basketball Twitter account, Lucky Wurtz announced his retirement after 13 seasons as the Papermakers’ Head Coach.

Maker girls crowned regional champs after upset of De Pere


Andrew Hanlon photo/Sophomore Kyla Dunaway was dominant all day Saturday in De Pere, finishing Kimberly’s win over Ashwaubenon with 9 kills and 3 blocks and adding 18 kills and 7 blocks in the team’s regional final win over host De Pere.
Note: Kimberly beat Notre Dame Academy last night before falling in a D1 sectional final to undefeated Appleton North.
As the No. 2 seed in its Division 1 regional Saturday, the Kimberly girls’ volleyball team didn’t have the pleasure of hosting an alternate season playoff match.

Kaukauna boys fall in three sets to Appleton North to end season


File photo/The Kaukauna boys fell one game shy of a sectional final Saturday as Kaukauna lost 3-0 to rival Appleton North.
Appleton North beat Kaukauna 3-0 on Saturday night in a WIAA Boys Alternate Fall Volleyball Tournament sectional matchup at KHS.
Ordinarily 3-0 would be domination, but Saturday’s match was far from it, with the Lightning beating the Ghosts by two points in each of the three games: 27-25, 25-23, and 25-23.

Opinion: 2021’s Opening Day is bigger than just baseball

Opening Day of the baseball season means many things to many people. It’s a fresh start. It means sun and green grass and warmer weather. For me it means the Brewers and Bob Uecker, who has been a staple of my life since I first learned baseball existed. Opening Day represents the hope that, right now, anything is possible.

Kaukauna boys volleyball now looks toward wrapping up FVA title

The Kaukauna boys volleyball team picked up its biggest win of the season so far Thursday night against defending state and Fox Valley Association champion Kimberly, beating the Papermakers in five sets (25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9).

Kimberly boys lose twice to Ghosts but roll through rest of FVA

Kimberly defense shuts down Pulaski rushing attack in win


Andrew Hanlon photo/Kimberly senior running back Caleb Frazer plunged in from 1 yard out on fourth and goal as the first-half clock expired, giving the Papermakers a 20-0 lead going into halftime on their way to a 23-6 win over Pulaski Thursday night.
The Kimberly defense held a unique and stout Pulaski running game that had gashed Ashwaubenon for 368 yards and 8 touchdowns – on 10.8 yards per carry – in week one to just 114 yards and 3.2 yards per carry Thursday night as the Papermakers moved to 2-0 with a 23-6 home win over the Red Raiders at Papermaker Stadium.

Kimberly girls lose road match at De Pere, fall to 5-3 overall on year

The Kimberly girls volleyball team fell to 5-3 overall after a 3-1 road loss at De Pere last Monday night, March 29.
As a non-conference match, though, the loss did not count against the Fox Valley Association standings, where the Makers remain at 3-2 and in third place behind 6-0 Appleton North and 5-1 Oshkosh West.
