Kimberly juniors Abby Osterman and Jean Marie Lorentz did something last week that no other Kimberly tennis player has ever done. And they did it together.

Despite losing twice last week, the Little Chute girls’ volleyball team headed into last night’s opening playoff matchup against former conference foe Berlin on a high note after cruising to a clean sweep of Marinette on the road Saturday.

With 49 points, the Little Chute boys’ cross country team — led once again by Riley Huss — finished in a tie with Freedom at the top of last Thursday’s North Eastern Conference Championship Meet.

Last week, Little Chute squared off against North Eastern Conference rival Wrightstown in a physical battle that saw Tigers’ kicker Michael Buntin convert a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give Wrightstown a 9-6 win at Fitzpatrick Field.

After losing out at a shot at state as a junior last season in a gut-wrenching tiebreaker, Papermakers’ senior golfer Maddie Kiley got over the hump and made it to Wisconsin’s ultimate tournament in 2020.

The Papermaker girls’ cross country team finished Thursday afternoon’s Fox Valley Association Conference Meet with 46 points, 20 behind FVA Champion Kaukauna, while the boys also finished second and ended the day with 58 points, 13 behind Neenah.

It may have been a sign of the recent success of the Kaukauna football team that the Ghosts were able to put away an overmatched opponent with ease.

Kaukauna improved to 3-0 by taking advantage of good field position and scoring quickly in defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 43-0 Friday night at Bank of Kaukauna Stadium.

Kaukauna Co-Head Coach Alex Antoine said last week that Thursday’s matchup with Plymouth would be a good indicator of how far his team had come. The Ghosts lost 4-0 to Plymouth on Sept. 22, but nearly tied the same team on Thursday, losing by just a goal.

The Kaukauna girls’ cross country team ended the regular season the way it began — with a dominant win.

The Ghosts’ girls finished first, beating Kimberly by 20 points at Countryside Golf Course, concluding their undefeated season with a Fox Valley Association title at the FVA Conference Meet Thursday afternoon.

Kimberly football will have a new home this spring. It was announced earlier today the Papermakers will join with 19 other schools around the state to form the Fox Valley Classic Football Conference for the alternate spring 2020 season.
