In what was a preview of this week’s first round playoff matchup, the Kimberly defense stepped up to secure the team’s 10th consecutive share of the FVA title. The defense came up with three turnovers during their 14-0 win in rainy weather over Appleton North last week.
McKenna Lowe helped lead the Kaukauna golf team towards a seventh place finish at the state tournament last week. Lowe tied for 12th with six other golfers with a 159 at University Ridge in Madison as the Ghosts had a 686 team score at the meet.
The Kaukauna football team continued to turn back the pages of the record book for the third consecutive game when it clinched a share of its first Fox Valley Association championship since 1995.
The Little Chute boys cross country team took second during the Baertschi Invitational last week in Albany. The boys finished with 84 points, while the girls took third with 75 points.
The Kimberly Papermakers improved to 28-6 overall after last week’s win over No. 10 ranked Madison Memorial. The Papermakers took the match in four sets (25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 25-23) as they headed into a match with Appleton East this week.
One of the area’s best high school golfers has made his decision on where he wants to play at the college level. Kimberly’s Aiden Cudney will be golfing at Illinois State next year.
Kaukauna graduate Lily Sheppard helped the UW-Whitewater golf team secure their seventh conference championship in a row last weekend. Sheppard placed third in the three day tournament as she posted 79 scores on the last two days for a total finish of 239.
Julia Gurholt is headed to the state tennis tournament for the third year in a row. The junior went 2-1 at the sectional meet at the Fox Cities Racquet Club last week as the Papermakers took third with 34 points.
Despite it being a rivalry week, the Kimberly and Kaukauna communities valued to support a local coach. The Galloping Ghosts volleyball program supported their coach Jodi Matthies last week with a breast cancer awareness game against their crosstown rivals.
